Default 2014 BBWAA Hall of Fame Ballot released

http://bbwaa.com/

I can't tell you how angry it makes me that the people in charge of the Hall of Fame have a website that looks like this.

I don't know, it seems to about fit what I think of baseball writers.

The thing that jumps out at me is the disparity between some of the players listed.

Guys like Maddux, Glavine and Frank Thomas are absolute locks. But who the hell put Mike Timlin, Paul Lo Duca and Jacque Jones on the ballot?

Jacque Jones?! He's not even the best "Jones" nominated.

Heck, Ray Durham is a nominee. Granted, he played for my favorite team and did well for the Sox, but he's not even close to a Hall of Famer.

I'm guessing Greg Maddux and Frank Thomas will be the only two elected.

I believe they put everybody who qualifies, and it's based on the length of the career and not the quality. As long as they played for 10 years and have been retired for 5, they get to be on the ballot at least once.

I doubt Glavine gets in, he's deff a hofer but I bet he misses it by a few points, kinda like how Biggio was somewhat snubbed.

That was true when Ron Santo only got 3.5 percent of the vote in his first year of eligibility. Rick Reichardt and Bob Miller (the one who pitched for both the 1962 Mets and the 1970 White Sox) were also on that ballot. The length of the ballot does not require a candidate to get more votes to be elected. The ballot just has everyone who meets the eligibility requirements and leaves it to the voters to decide who is worthy.

Now they drop anyone not getting 5 percent to make the ballot leaner, but they don't limit the ballot to only players who are certain to get more than 5 percent of the vote.

Biggio has a shot too, he just fell short last year.

Frank better be first ballot...

Frank in the Hall would be a great birthday present for me.

I have this horrible feeling that this is somehow the year that Jack Morris gets put over the top at the very end of his eligibility, a la Jim Rice.

Frank, Glavine, and Biggio are all deserving and will most likely get in within the next couple years, but right now I think Maddux is the only sure thing.

I think your 100 percent right. Guys like Glavine and Biggio deserve to be in on first ballots but because of all these steroid users the votes are really going to clog things up.

I would think Biggio will get in before Glavine only because he was somewhat snubbed last year. The one thing that does worry me on Biggio is if voters snubbed him due to steroid use.
