Default FA Outfielders

Depending on what the Sox do with De Aza (FA) and Viciedo (trade/move to 1B/DH), we're probably going to need to sign or trade for at least one more outfielder. Which free agent makes the most sense?

I doubt we'd break the bank to sign Choo or Ellsbury, so I've added select interesting candidates to the poll.

I've always liked McLouth, and he won't break the bank, so that's my choice.

I think De Aza gets traded, but I don't know who replaces him. I went with Crisp.

With the Abreu signing- and with Dunn still on the roster- I think we're locked into Viciedo and Garcia for the corner spots.

We need a CF (preferably a legit lead off man as well)- and there's no real prospect close in the minors- I'd vote for Granderson- even though it will never happen.

I went with churros. They were the low cost option that I know will not disappoint!

Trade pitching (Santiago?) for Peter Bourjos and put him in CF. . . .Unfortunately he's another righthanded hitter but I don't know if I can watch DeAza out there for another season.

I'd take Granderson or Crisp in a hearbeat. I'd take Young if you swing and miss.

We'll probably end up with McClouth.

I think we'd be a better squad if we concentrated our efforts on 3B and C than dedicating resources to the minimal upgrades that exist as realistic option on the FA OF market.

I would rather use all available resources for pitching for now and also for the future. I see no available ofers, 3rd and catcher that will make a real difference in the future of this club. Getting journeymen position players for this club is basically a smoke and mirror show for the fans. The best way for this club to compete in the distant future is with a rock solid pitching staff and a defensive club.

I don't really think any of those guys make sense right now. They're either too expensive relative to what they'll be able to provide or just simply not enough of an upgrade over what we have now to justify the expenditure.

The problem is that we don't have anyone in the minors that can step up and play 150 games at a major league level, so a replacement outfielder would have to come from somewhere else.

Jordan Danks and Blake Tekotte are our only big league stop-gaps at the position. That's pretty scary.

Add Flowers in the deal and include Iannetta and than try to get Freese from the Cardinals.

It amazes me how people seem to think other teams want our garbage.

I don't think DeAza is a free agent but it is possible, although I think unlikely, that the Sox would non-tender him.

Anyway, of the outfielders in the poll, I think Coco Crisp matches best with the Sox. But I don't think he is a free agent until after 2014. So, of this group, I agree that Nate McLouth would be the best short term fit with the Sox. He does hit left handed and that is a plus. And, hopefully, the Sox' long term solutions in the OF come from within the organization.
