Default Smartphone Apps

Seeing as how the White Sox do not have an official App for smartphones (at least not on Android anyhow), what's your go-to app for baseball? Aside from Yahoo and ESPN apps to keep up with scores, I use MLB At Bat. I see there are a lot of fan driven apps out there and wonder if they're any good? And, why don't the White Sox have an official app ala the Blackhawks?

Thanks, I'll hang up and listen to your answer.

I just let Google Now keep me up to date on scores. It works darn well.

Otherwise, I have Chrome if I want other info.

I just did a quick Google Play search. They Yankees don't have their own app. I am going to guess that MLB Advanced Media controls it all through the At Bat app. The teams probably aren't even allowed to have their own apps.

I know some people don't like their style of reporting, but I swear by the Bleacher Report Team Stream app.

You add your favorite teams and it aggregates news stories and tweets from all over the web. There's a base stream with top stories intermixed with info about your chosen teams, and also feeds for each team.

For example, for the Sox feed it has stories from CSN Chicago, the Tribune, ESPN, Sun Times, that Sox blog, MLB Trade Rumors and tweets from Daryl Van Shouwen - the Sun Times beat writer, Dan Hayes from CSN, the Sox twitter feed and Scott Merkin

ESPN used to do something like this, but has taken a step back by relying on ESPN-created content, so now Team Stream is the best sports news aggegator app.

I have an MLB Audio account already, do you need to pay extra to use it with the At Bat app?

Starting last year, buying the app got you access to MLB Gameday Audio on your computer.

So the thing to do would be cancel your audio subscription and buy the app this year.

The fact that the White Sox do not have an app just tells you how screwed up the management of this team is. The Blackhawks and Bears both have nice apps which I check fairly regularly. You'd think someone in the marketing department of this team would have a freaking clue.

I searched 5 teams and didn't see any with an official app. Probably a result of Selig & Co

There's a laundry list of Sox marketing shortcomings, but I don't think this one qualifies

Then there are 30 MLB teams with screwed up management. No MLB team has its own official app outside of MLB At Bat.

I wonder how many times in this thread it will need to be pointed out that no MLB team has it's own stand-alone app, it's all consolidated by MLB.

I use the general Yahoo sports app. Covers all major sports, great for scores, but you can dive in deeper to see rosters, news etc. Also, it's very easy to use. The ESPN app is a mess, I still have it but rarely check it.

There was a short period of time (maybe two/three years ago) that there was a separate Sox app and Sox widget. I think all 30 teams had one. It was very similar to At Bat and had the exact same content but it only displayed that which was related to the White Sox. Same concept as the MLB/ individual team websites. At some point the content ceased to be updated and I deleted it from my phone. I assume MLB didn't see the point to maintaining 31 apps just to have the team logo on 30 of them. But they did attempt to do so at one time.

I see literally no benefit that a team-specific app would have that the customized At Bat doesn't already have.

Now that you mention that...there was a separate app called MLB - At The Ballpark. I took it off my phone when I needed some space, but if I recall it may have had something like that on it. I do remember that it allowed me to check into the Cell, and it may have had a ballpark map on it.

I wonder if the Sox could make a USCF-specific app for stuff like that, I think the United Center has one.
