I'd be ecstatic if it happened, but it's not without risk. One scout recently called him Dayan Viciedo without the athleticism. Which is what I thought Dayan Viciedo was.
![]() Signing a big time international young free agent, whether it works out or not, is exactly what we should be doing though. |

As much as people like to disagree with you, I don't see how anyone can in this instance.

I'd be willing to roll the dice on this guy too. The Sox are starving for somebody, anybody, who can make a difference in the middle of the lineup. The Sox seem to have a whole host of guys who belong hitting 7, 8 or 9. What they don't have is many players capable of hitting 3, 4, 5 or 6. Aside from A. Garcia, the cupboard is bare in that regard. It's time to take a chance and acquire a potential impact hitter entering his prime years.

I hate to say it, but the fact that the Sox are one of the front-runners for this guy makes me a little nervous. If he is such a good player, why aren't more teams in on him? I remember when the Sox signed Viciedo being really excited because everybody talked about how good he was. I remember that little voice in the back of my head questioning why the Sox were able to get him so cheaply if he was supposed to be so good back then too.
I want them to get him just because they need to fill PK's spot, and it would be nice to do it with a long term solution, but unless they were to beat out a handful of teams, including the big spenders, I won't be able to help feeling a little nervous about it.

Sox should sign him. Literally have nothing behind PK and Dunn. Big contract, but nothing that would be disastrous if he doesn't pan out. Plenty of money coming off the books so as long as the contract is reasonable I say do it. What do the Sox have to lose? Could be an absolute steal if he develops as some think he will.
Ideally, maybe we could also sign Saltalamacchia or McCann but I'm dreaming I know. |
