Default Ron Kittle

This probably belongs in the Parking Lot, but it was my birthday Saturday and Ron Kittle sent me a message on Facebook wishing me a happy birthday. How many people can say that their favorite player ever sent them a happy birthday message? It was the highlight of my day.

He sent me one on my birthday, too.

He has also commented on White Sox posts I've made.

Woo hoo.

He did not send me a birthday greeting. Instead, he sent me a message stating that Jose Quintana is not a soft-tosser. And Happy Birthday, Kittle42.

Chez for the win (as the kids say), and Dump, sorry it was not as important to you. I wanted to come here and give the man credit for being appreciative of his fans, not to act like I was something special.

I've run into Ron a bunch of times at Sox events and he's always super nice and willing to talk about whatever. A very down to earth ex-ballplayer.

I'm just curious. Do you guys actually know Ron Kittle? That is pretty cool he would send anyone a message.

Hes an amusing but good guy. I meet him a couple times in passing and is not difficult to approach. Nice to hear he looks at this board, it probably amuses the living crap out of him.

When I first friended Kittle on Facebook I asked him about a story I heard about him when he was in high school. Some of the guys that played baseball against him said Kittle routinely hit home runs into Lake Michigan from the old Whiting Park. Kittle said he recalled hitting a homer into the Lake, but couldn't remember who it was against.

When Kittle had his Indiana Sports Charities golf outing, my employer was a regular sponsor. They guys who had contact with Kittle spoke highly of him.

A few years ago, a guy was sent from work (beer distributor) and given Kittle's address with instructions to drop off two cases of Labatt in his garage. I have no idea what is was about, but it was done. Kittle wasn't in his garage.
