Opens the roster spots up for Cano, Granderson, and Jose Dariel Abreu. In all seriousness though, I'm glad the Sox are trimming some of the dead weight off the 40 man. Troncoso was hot garbage, Omogrosso is hurt, and Bryan Anderson can't hit. I look at this move as Hahn "laying the drop cloth down" on his White Sox renovation. Looking forward to more moves this offseason.

Also, Leyson Septimo and Hector Gimenez decline assignments and opt for free agency.

I'm sure that will work out well for them.

Disagree

Can't understand why Axelrod hasn't got his walking papers yet because he is useless.

Teams that are going through rebuilding usually have to roster a handful of useless players to eat innings and at bats

The Sox were the 3rd worst MLB team this past season and probably still have a Bottom 5 farm system; beggars can't be choosers. I mean, if you dump Axelrod, whose the next man in line... Zach Stewart? Probably not even a lateral move.

His uncle is an agent. Look at what Reinsdorf did to Doug Collins.

Did you see this guy's numbers last year? I would rather see you pitch than him for the Sox next year.

I agree. I don't think even Axelrod wants to pitch anymore.

It goes along with what many of you are saying. If you're so bad you don't need a closer, you can be so bad you don't need a spot starter or long man. Hence Axelrod.

Seriously guys, not needing a closer is carrying it too far. If Reed blew 20% of his save chances and made us unhappy, how unhappy would we be if Thing II blew 50% of his save chances.

For the 2nd time, the "BA" era is over for the White Sox.

Hard to believe that those 3 were on the 40 man. I guess that's why we lost 99.

I don't even think Axelrod is the world's worst option for spot starter.. as long as that's his role. He's recorded a quality start in 40% of his MLB starts, which isn't awful for a guy if you're asking them to step up in an emergency every now and then. It's just a problem when you ask that guy to give you 130 innings in a season.

I don't ever want to see Axelrod in the rotation any more, but I don't think there's enough talent elsewhere in this organization that we can afford to just cut everybody and anybody.

I don't think that anybody is all that unhappy with Reed's performance last year. When I look at the 2013 nightmare, Reed is pretty low on the list of people I blame for it.

However, I don't really see the need to go into next year with him as the closer just because he's established in the role. I also disagree with the line of thought that not needing a closer is carrying things too far. This team is going nowhere with Reed, so if we can get something decent in return for him, I'm all for moving him and posting the same miserable season without him as we would have with him.

Plus, if Reed's replacement racks up a few saves by the trade deadline, maybe we can repeat the process and sell high again. I say take advantage of any GM who is willing to overpay for saves.
