Daniel Bard was claimed by the Cubs which is not a surprise since he was a Theo guy. I was hoping Hahn would take a shot and see if Coop could turn him around. Still young and he was dominating for 2010 and most of 2011 and then lost his control.

He has also lost velocity as well as his control. He used to throw 97-98mph but fangraphs says he is down into the 92-93 mph range.

I'll pass on a middle reliever who has lost skills in pretty much every metric over the last two years.

Oh well it was not to be. But I saw him a lot in Boston and he dominated for a couple of years. |

It's a longshot that Bard will ever return to form.
If I were the Sox, I wouldn't waste too much time or money on reclamation projects. If the Cubs want to roll the dice on guys like Arrieta, Olt and Bard, good for them. Maybe one of them will work out for them. But I wouldn't count on it.

He may have been, but he was great for most of 2011. He set the Boston record for 25+ consecutive scorless innings from May until the 2011 All Star break. He lost his command in Sept of 11 which was 2 years ago.
