Default Congratulations, Ichiro

4,000th career hit, only the 3rd person to reach that mark

Hank Aaron and Stan Musial had 4000 hits if you count their minor league seasons. If Tuffy Rhodes is hitting 40+ homeruns at age 40, can we not assume that the Japanese Leagues equate to American AAA?

Bob Nightengale
Pete Rose: Loves Ichiro, but since his 4,000 hits weren't all in MLB, he remains only player alive in 4,000 hit club

It's probably AAA or AAAA. I think the 4,000 hit moniker for Ichiro is good for showing what a great career he has had and shows what kind of numbers he could have put up if he played his whole career in MLB (although perhaps they would have been even more impressive, as the MLB season is about 30 games longer than NPB). That said, perhaps it's not all that useful as a direct comparison to other players.

Ichiro Suzuki is probably my favorite player ever and Rose is a piece of crap, but I think he's right here.
It doesn't matter anyway. Stats mean nothing anymore in baseball.

As did some guy named Jigger Statz. So he's actually the 6th guy to get 4000 hits in professional baseball.

The big question is of how big the celebration will be when he finally passes Harold Baines.
