Default Street Parking?

I'm thinking of going to the game Wednesday afternoon. Does anyone park on the street? If so what streets have unrestricted free parking (no neighborhood sticker), and how far away from the park are they? I thought west of Halsted or north of 29th might.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks.

JR, under the guise of the City, are making it more difficult but there is parking on State at about 37th. I would bet it is a .5 mile walk, maybe longer. It's worth it to me to save $20 for very little effort.

I hate to give away my secret spot, but there's always parking on Canal north of 27th. It's a good 15-minute walk, but I figure the exercise I get cancels out the hot dog I'm about to eat.

I had to street park on opening day and found it on 28th and Normal without a problem. 15 minutes sounds right. So save over a buck a minute! Spend your savings on a pork chop sandwich on your way there!

All the usual street parking west of the park is now permit parking. This was a change as of this season.

Kind of a scam, if you ask me...

I haven't been to a game in a few years since I moved, so some of this might have changed...

When I didn't live in the neighborhood, I'd park for free on Normal just south of Pershing. The street would usually fill up down toward Root street on a weekend game, but you could park right next to the factory on Pershing and Normal most of the time.

Also, Cobblestone's on Pershing and Parnell used to have a deal where they'd let you park in their lot for $10, which could be used as a credit toward your food and beverage purchase with them.

Curious to know if any of this info is still good, as I'll be back in Chicago in September and might try to catch a game while I'm there.

I don't think they're open any more

Yep, Cobblestones has been closed for a few years now. I used to park west of Halsted near Catchers but then the No Parking signs started popping up once Catchers closed. A friend of mine always parked south of 39th so that's where we go now.

Side note, why did all those bars close up? Seemed like they were around forever, and now in the last 2 years a lot of bars near the park are going belly up.

I parked at Cobblestone's once and it was a pretty good deal. Used the credit for their muffaletta sandwich and it was a boss.

I also spent a couple of nights at Catchers back in the day. It seemed like the quintessential Chicago corner bar. But I think they had increased patronage from some shady characters their last couple of years that scared away their regular business. At least from what I was told.

On the flip side, both Cork and Turtles seem to be slammed before every game. Nice to see that (unless you are looking for a seat at the bar).

That's too bad. I've got lots of good memories of that place, plus it's where I watched game 4 of the 2005 World Series.

Cobblestones has been closed for a while. They got into a fight over their liquor license and lost it. The lot there is gated but it was like that for years and it is locked now.

Catchers has been closed for about a year, but that place was a huge problem for the neighborhood.

Schaller's is your place to park, great food and great bar.

The problem we are having here is the fact that the workers are parking on our streets. Would it be a huge issue to let all the workers park in their lots? I know this is a huge issue and the Sox are really going to hear about it soon.
