I AGREE!!! He has that fire and intensity that you want from your #1. If we surround him with a good team, no reason for him to leave.

He is also having his college jersey number retired next weekend. First in FGCU history.

While the fan in me is grateful forcwhat he said, the laborer in me is sad that he didn't try to get all the money he could. Still his decision, his career, his money...

Still though, I don't see how his next contract is less than $125 million, considering what the market is right now.

Remember when Peavy get so much **** for his "fire and intensity"?

Should we tell Sale to shut up and pitch?

I'll be the bummer and say I'd prefer someone else grossly overpay him for his later years, but I'd love to see him for the next 7-8 years in a Sox uniform, even if a few of those years at the end are 35$M years.

Yeah, Peavy was unfairly criticized many, many times on this board.

Some guys are fiery and emotional. Others are quiet and low-key. I've seen players of both those personality types have success, so I don't know why it matters. Results are what matter.

People are who they are. One person's "fire" is another's immaturity- See the reactions to AJ on here. For every "fiery competitor" that is successful, there's a Greg Maddux. For every Lou Pinella and Mike Ditka there's a Tom Osborne and Joe Torre.

Hope Sale still feels this way when crunch time comes down the road...

Luckily it will be years before we have to talk about this. Perhaps in a year or so we'll announce an extension. Nothing wrong with reworking the current deal to guarantee more money in order to lock him up for longer.

He doesn't talk near as much as Peavy did and he backs his words up a lot better than Peavy. I really don't see much of a comparison personality wise between Peavy and Sale. Two totally different guys.
