Just saw it on TV, when you do something stupid like that you can hurt one of your team mates, say part of the bat flies off and hits someone in the head.
Don't think it can't happen? There was a story in Golf magazine a few years ago about a golfer that got mad after a bad drive, he hit the club so hard into the ground in anger that it broke in half and a very sharp part of the graphite shaft wound up in the neck and the carotid artery of a playing partner and killed him.

I say good for Papi, just glad no one was hurt. I love to watch that guy hit, and he's usually pretty entertaining and correct in (post melt-down) interviews.

Timmons is one of the worst umps in the game according to Deadspin's ump series, and that call was atrocious and incredibly unfair.

No excuse for the anger, but to me that was more of an example of the umpire showing up the player vs. the player showing up the umpire.

I don't care how bad the call was his actions deserve a suspension. He almost took Pedroia's head off and you can tell he wasn't exactly happy with Ortiz.
