Am I missing something?? How can he say they are getting close if he is not sure they can find a middle ground.

I would assume the Sox will be able to find someone making the Major League minimum salary who could hit for a .650 OPS and commit 17 errors at SS in a pinch
The SS at AAA is hitting .189 so he will feel comfortable in this lineup. Bring him up for the remainder. He seems pretty good defensively.

Sox don't even have a backup SS right now, so I wouldn't assume they can find one. If they could, they might be able to rest Ramirez occasionally. The lapses on defense might disappear and the power numbers might go up a bit.

Looks like they have the players settled, they're just working on the money

Sure, you can have Beckham and his 720 OPS with no power, no speed and poor defense over there.

#Pirates and #WhiteSox have at least discussed the parameters of a trade in which Jake Peavy and Alexei Ramirez
would come to Pittsburgh in exchange for Jameson Taillon, Alex Dickerson and at least one other prospect. #MLB #BUCN 29 minutes ago

That would certainly be a fair return.

Red Sox have struggled against Tampa lefties--Moore & Price in 3 games this past week. Maybe Boston has interest in Rios??? even Konerko??. Maybe a Peavy/Rios package could now pry one of their top prospects ( please not Middlebrooks) in a package.
