Buster Olney@Buster_ESPN6m
The White Sox may well be trying to apply more leverage in the Peavy talks by saying they're holding him, before making a move... We'll see.

That's acceptable. You can never have too much pitching, and maybe we were a bit too demanding, but it's better than giving him away. Besides, you can always play for the draft pick.

I'm fine with it either way but this is clearly just a negotiating tactic.

He's just as valuable in the off season as he is today with even more teams who would be interested in his services...and then at the trade deadline next year.

He's coming off a DL stint and still has a year on his contract and you can't possibly think of a scenario in which his trade value would rise?

This is speculation, not a fact. I'd rather they gamble that it does than accept crappy offers for the sake of making a move to dump salary. One thing is for certain, Jake makes our staff much stronger when he's healthy and I'd rather we build around him than gamble on inferior prospects. Most prospects never see the majors.

Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 1m

#Athletics off Peavy, moving onto other pursuits - bullpen, middle IFer. Will dangle some of players they would have traded for Peavy.

So, if #WhiteSox are posturing with Peavy, they could be losing chance to make certain deals. Remains to be seen whether they will hold him.

From what I read yesterday the Sox are going to re-tool around the pitching staff so it make sense to keep Jake. I'm a Jake fan and am going to get down on my knees and pray that Jake can stay healthy.

Isn't offense what we should be trying to "re-tool?" Maybe I'm misinterpreting what is meant by that but pitching seems to be the area in which we are "okay" in. Position players is a whole other story.

Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 55s

#Athletics, #RedSox seemed most likely for Peavy, with #STLCards also possible. Talks stalled, but much can change over next two days.

If this is posturing, the Sox must think every other team is ****ing clueless.

Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan 1m Remember: Rick Hahn is a shrewd negotiator. Was an agent. Did most of the White Sox's big deals. Tough to get a read on. Playing this well.

I guess I should have said it in a different way, the pitching staff if fine, the rest of the club is to be re-tooled based on what I read.

I don't mind the Sox keeping Peavy but we do need to trade Alexei, Lindstrom, De Aza and Rios.
