The Sox are playing for nothing right now and his name is popping up all over trade rumors. This doesn't excuse his lack of hustle recently but what makes you think he would continue down that path should he be thrust into the middle of a heated pennant race?

Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN now Jesse Crain has been dealt to Tampa Bay, according to a source.

Mark Gonzales ‏@MDGonzales 1m

About 20 minutes ago, Crain went to off-limits area with clubhouse attendant, presumably to get official word.

Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 6m

Awaiting official word on Crain's trade to Tampa Bay.

Can't imagine we'll be getting a huge load, but if details are still forming, I'm anxious to see how this goes down.

Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN 40s
The White Sox are telling other teams they're going to keep Peavy and build around him.

Let's hope this is just posturing. Unless you expect to contend in 2014, what's the point of holding on to him? 14.5mil in 2014 is not worth an extra first round pick.

Yes, but I was strictly talking $14.5 million. Even if he makes it through 2013 unscathed, that's a sizable risk for a guy who is likely to have some sort of DL trip next year.

The White Sox may well be trying to apply more leverage in the Peavy talks by saying they're holding him, before making a move... We'll see.

Didn't get the offer they wanted probably. I hope they didn't overplay their hand on Rios .

No, No, No, No, No, and NO. The guy is a rusty engine painted gold right now. Everyone is saying he's the most valuable trade chip currently on the market, and you're going to KEEP him? There have to be at least 4 teams interested in him right now, and at least one will surely overpay the Sox. This is a golden opportunity.

They're not unbelievably clueless if no one is offering a good deal. They can deal him in the offseason, or they can keep him because he's a good pitcher on a fair contract.

Yeah, it's not like we're not turning down peak value offers, here. They know more about his medicals than anyone, and if they feel good about that, I feel good about his value only rising going forward.

Could also just be the Sox trying to up the ante. Putting up a front as it were.

Much more fun to freak out though.
