Added credibility if that claim area was at the Phoenix airport.

Jayson Stark ‏@jaysonst 57m
White Sox haven't shown interest in eating any of Peavy's $ (close to $24M left). That & health were big issues for Atl, Bal, StL & even LA
Details

Hopefully this isn't true. This is not the time to play on-the-cheap.

Yeah, and if someone, on a small chance, takes the whole contract; you can say goodbye to premier prospects.

Would you rather the Sox eat less money or get better prospects?

I agree with doublem. We keep preaching the team needs better players. I know we want prospects and all but if the prospect offers are not that great and even with more money thrown in they are not going to get that much better, I would rather the Sox save the money and use it to acquire better talent next year.

I also think the Sox are using what the usual market is for a starter of his quality. You would not expect to have to pay another team to take a really good pitcher off you. If the player was a flop with a big contract that you were trying to get rid of then yes...I.e. Soriano. Jake is not a flop is his contract high somewhat yes but if you can get 9-10 wins out of him then his contract IMHO is good.

The Sox are clearly going to be rebuilding. They won't be spending significant money in free agency for the coming season. They need to maximize the return on the assets they are moving.

Again, what is the rush???If he unloaded Peavy a week ago, before Hudson got hurt, his value would have been less. Atlanta in the picture , if we believe the rumors, has increaed his value.

If the money only got you a B- prospect vs. a C+ would you do it?

If Hahn thinks he can get a better haul for Peavy this offseason, then he should wait until then.

I heard an interview from Friday w Red Sox beat writer Sean McAdam. He is usually a good source of info. He said the Red Sox were obviously interested in Peavy. He said if White Sox would not eat a portion of $19 mil( I know you said 24) then Red Sox would not include high prospects. If White Sox ate a chunk, he assumes Middlebrooks would be the prime piece along w lesser prospects.

I am not a Middlebrooks fan although supposedly he is improving his stroke at AAA.

That's a marginal difference, which obviously wouldn't be the case.

Obviously? So is there a certain pay scale per prospect ratio you have I do not know of.

You are getting a better haul the more your team is willing to throw in money wise. That's...not difficult to understand.

You bringing up B- or C+ is marginal. Depending on money the Sox are willing to give we could be talking C- through A.

If I were a rival GM I would ask the Sox to absorb as much as possible and give them a small return back. It is simple negotiation. Form all reports the offers out there are not that great for him so I doubt its an A propect even with the money. So you are looking at a range from B-C.
