Default Know your baseball rules

I found this quiz on Deadspin which links to the Sportsnation page. It is ten questions regarding hypothetical and unusual rule interpretations in an MLB game. See how many you can get right. I scored an 8/10, but that was dumb luck.

Some of these descriptions depicted I found poorly worded. In question 5 they wrote that the player trying to make the catch "Falls into the stands" which to me is Juan Uribe making the second out of 9th inning of game 4.

They should have posed the question as "Falls completely into the stands".

Seems apropo that the Sox pitcher both balks and gives up a homerun on the same pitch in their scenerio.

It says a player can actually carry his teammate around the bases. I could see some players reading this and deciding to pull this out on a gamewinning homerun.

Re: #7: Does that mean no runs should score on the play?

10 out of 10. I've seen most of these things happen in games, and they stick out in your mind because there is usually an argument over the interpretation of the rules. A couple are poorly worded, and No. 9 looks like it is an incident that happened in a Giants-Dodgers game a couple of years ago except for one detail that might be missed without careful reading. And No. 5 should have read "left the field of play after catching the ball." The wording really doesn't help. Seeing the play would be easier. That may be one reason that, if I am reading the percentages correctly, six of the 10 questions are being missed by more than 50 percent of the people responding. There are three questions that two thirds of the respondents are missing. I found the biggest trick in a few of the questions was determining which specific rule the question was addressing.

This looks like something out of a book The Sporting News published in the 1960s, Knotty Problems of Baseball. It was one of the things I used to read over and over again on long car trips.

4 out of 10, which tied me with Dunn at least!
