Per the AP, through a breaking news push notification on my iPhone, the Los Angeles Dodgers will be sold to a group that includes Magic Johnson.

This is not only great for the Dodgers, but great for Los Angeles. Magic has done pretty well in his post-NBA life, and I think the Dodgers will quickly turn into a top organization.

Actually Magic "heads-up" the group but how much he's personally invested or how much actual say he'll have in things, I don't know.

It's good to see the Dodgers in proper hands. Dodger Stadium is still one of the best places to watch a game.

Imagine NBA legend Magic Johnson one day holding the Commissioner's Trophy. It'd be like watching Wayne Gretzky parading with the Lombardi Trophy.

Why would I do that to myself? Might as well flush the $$$ down the toilet.
Or, I would buy them and trade Brandon McCarthy back to the Sox for future consideration. |

I read earlier that the 2nd highest bid was around $1 billion or 1.1 billion. What prompted Magic's group to raise their bid by 25% and essentially double the other highest bid by going up to $2 million?
In other words, did they just overpay by almost a billion dollars by not going to auction? |

A bit of a local tie-in, looks like the controlling owner of the Dodgers when all the dust settles will be a local guy, Mark Walter who is CEO of the Guggenheim Partners, HQ'd in the Loop.
