I met "Moose" about four years ago and he sat with my wife and I in a sky box next to the radio broadcast booth. He was very nice,he spent all night talking about the old days and shared many stories of his playing days with the "M's"....He called it his Murders row;
Maris, Mantle and "Moose"..!!

I was just a kid when he played for the Sox, and when he came to bat we'd yell " Mooooooooo-se!

I am so happy to see Moose get so much respect here. He was everything people said about him and more. Pure old school Chicago and his own man at the same time. Moose was also a local legend in 16 inch softball.

I may be the only guy here who gets this reference. You're on a roll this week with the Gorilla Monsoon "orient" call.

Moose was also a nice guy when I met him. He signed autographs like a gentleman and bitched about the young guys now who don't actually sign their names so you can read them.

One of the more interesting stories I ever heard him tell was how he got the nickname "Moose." It wasn't because he was a big guy. When he was a kid, he got his head shaved down to practically nothing, and the other kids in the neighborhood told him he looked like Mussolini. So, it was shortened to Moose, and it stuck.

Always enjoyed when he'd sit in the booth and tell stories. The guy always made me laugh. It's a shame he won't be there this year.

Here's to you, Moose.
