The Sox certainly have enough uniform options in their history if they wanted to do something like this. Lip |

The Padres ballpark is probably the most kid friendly park in the league as well. The have a dedicated "beach" section for kids with a giant sand area and it looks right into the outfield wall fence.
They do a great job at targeting the younger audience and family audience. It is really the only way they can build a good fan base since most of So.Cal is composed of transplanted fans.

Dealing with a major league team budget, the expense for this can't be that much and in a market like Chicago, where the northsiders tend to get the bigger share of the attention and media, this would be a great way to cultivate the youngsters attention and loyalty. We certainly have a number of uniform designs to recreate for the kids. MAYBE the gang members would quit embracing the caps and colors if little leaguers were wearing them!

Would be a great PR move by the Sox. Wonder if Brooks has heard about this?

What a wonderful way to get kids to feel connected to history of the hometown team while their still young.
If the Sox were to do something similar, they could outfit more than one team per league based on the color changes they've had through the years. You could go white, navy, red, royal. I just wouldn't want to see black. Who'd want to play for the Black Sox?

This would be brilliant if they did this. Also in NW Ind, as that has become "mixed territory", when it should be White Sox turf.
A little fixed cost now would result in tons of variable income in the future. Especially compared to advertising dollars, or even the cost to build new fields.

The Sox have been supporting little leagues and handicap leagues for ages. Building fields and donating$$
White Sox Charities has been around forever, and I would hate to think they would buy uniforms and cut other worthwhile donation. |

This is as much a branding and marketing move as it is a charity move.

Great idea! I'm all for it as long as some unlucky kids don't have to wear the Chet Lemon era shorts!

Didn't MLB sue little leagues in Chicago for using their team names and unis?

Of course, this works great in San Diego as a single-team market with a varied uniform past.
I'm not sure the Sox could ever pull this off in Chicago, a two-team market, without more hurt feelings than good publicity. I wouldn't want to be in the league with the psycho Cubs dad who wants to shut down the season because the '77 Cubs blue pinstripe away unis aren't represented. |
