Too bad they didn't want Dunn! Sorry to see "Q" go. He played hard and was competitive. I wish more guys had his heart.

He carried that 2008 year team like not many Sox players I have seen, until he got hurt. He should be a memorable Sox player because of that year.

Good luck in San Diego, TCQ. I love your intensity and your 2008 season in particular was fun to watch.
I liked those Sox commercials he starred in in where he was practicing his stance "everywhere"; they were an inside joke in my family for a while. |

That 2008 season for Carlos was one of the best all around offensive seasons I've seen a Sox hitter have. It was early 90s Frank Thomas-esque. Carlos put up some big numbers but it was WHEN he got those hits that season. Whenever the team needed a big HR or a big double late in the game, he was the one delivering it. Also, in April and May of that year when the team was in one of their patented Walker-esque offensive funks, Quentin was one of the bright spots. Post 2008 Carlos was a solid hitter but he never quite found that MVP groove again. Carlos was one of my favorite current Sox players and I'll miss him. Good luck in SD and tear it up in the NL!

I'll never forget the game at Comiskey Park the night before Memorial Day,2008.Quentin hit a 2 run HR and a game winner in the 9th off John Lackey for a 3-2 win over the Halos.I just wish the 2008 Quentin had stuck around for 2009,2010 and 2011.I guess injuries put an end to that wish.Good Luck,CQ.

A semi-healthy Joe Crede wouldn't have hurt the team.IIRC,2008 was his last year with the Sox.

Kinda surprised that SD picked up an arb eligible guy like TCQ, but so be it.
Adios, TCQ, your 2008 season woulda/coulda/ shoulda been one for the ages. Wish they could have kept you on the field a bit more. Good luck at Petco, and pound some lumps on the Cubs for us. SMO

His 2008 season is one of my all-time favorites for a Sox player. He was on an absolute tear after coming out of nowhere, narrowly avoiding a trip to Charlotte thanks only to a Jerry Owens injury
. Think about that for a second. That was the year my wife accused me of having a man-crush on Quentin, and she was right.Every year since 2008 I looked forward to Quentin repeating that MVP-caliber season, but it never materialized. Too many injuries, too much inconsistency, and perhaps becoming a little too pull-happy as a result of the home ballpark all conspired to bring him down to earth. His ABs were still a treat to watch, but over time I realized his 2008 season was a fluke that would not be repeated. He was a solid player and will be missed in our lineup, but he is not the superstar I expected him to become. |

I believe that was also the last game in which the 2005 Jose Contreras showed up.
