What do you mean?
Dude is pretty raw and need reps. He missed a whole season. His K-rate was worrisome in Low-A and he also isn't the greatest base-stealer despite great speed. The Sox are often too aggressive with their prospects so I wouldn't be surprised if he starts in AA. I'd rather see him in Winston-Salem though. Overall, he has tons to work on and plenty to prove. I'm not penciling him in anywhere with the Sox just yet. |

My concern is that it is reported most scouts say he is a good football player and a good athlete. Unfortunately, the Sox are not the Bears.

As opposed to being a good baseball player. You can be a good athlete, but lack the higher, more specialized, skill set of a MLB player.

Buddy Bell noted on the radio that Mitchell will be going to Winston-Salem.

so, anyone have any updates on Mitchell?
or at least a link to a good website where I can follow his progress? I'm helping run an LSU site now, and I'm trying to keep the locals updated on former Tigers in the minors (and majors) |

You don't have to be an athlete to be a ball player.

You can keep a tab on the daily box scores, play-by-play, and individual stats, on the Winston-Salem Dash site. One can listen to broadcasts of the games for free as well.
http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/index.jsp?sid=t580 Baseball Reference & Fangraphs are great for stats too. Unfortunately Jared isn't doing too hot. .216/.266/.398 at the moment with 2 SB's, and 3 CS on the year. The 34% K-rate will have to go down significantly for him to be successful. |

We have to treat this like year 1 for him. You are allowed to say it's early when a player is returning from a big injury and hasn't played much baseball in a long time.

Knowing the Sox, the plans are to bring him up to the bigs and start him by August. They don't like to rush their prospects.
