Default Markakis?

What about a Quentin and Floyd plus lower prospect or two to Baltimore for Nick Markakis. He's an outstanding defensive outfielder. He's young, nice hitter for average and a little pop. The type of hitter this lineup needs. He and Rios would give us an outstnding outfield. Any thoughts?

It'll take more than Floyd and Quentin...you're also creating another hole by dealing a starting pitcher.

I like Markakis a lot but that's a bit too much for him. Baltimore would jump on that, IMO, especially since putting TCQ in that park would hide some of his defensive deficiencies.

I really doubt that Baltimore has any desire to trade away Markakis. Also, he's making around $53m over the next 4 years. The Sox aren't going to add that kind of money to the payroll.

His contract is becoming pretty expensive.
And, as has been stated, it creates a hole in the rotation.

They don't. This is idle speculation I suppose.

Then we can just sign Cliff Lee to fill in Floyds spot

I thought there was talk last year that they wanted to shed payroll?

Kenny just said today they are tapped out. They aren't adding a light hitting outfielder due $53 million.

I hear the Orioles are pretty interested in Konerko.

He's their cornerstone -- and one of their few valuable players, outside of Wieters. You'd have to overpay to get him.

I would trade TCQ and Floyd in a heartbeat for Markakis and roll the dice on coming up with a starter. I like Floyd but since his outstanding 2008 season he is 21-24, not exactly Cy Young stuff.
