The reason I ask is because I know Alex Fernandez was the rep two years ago when the Sox picked Beckham. Seems like every team has former players as reps (Alomar, Bagwell, Joyner, etc) right now.

Edit- I see....this is only for the 2nd round now.

That's all about signability. They have a lot of picks in the first four rounds and need to augment what little talent they have on the farm.

Delino DeShields Jr. was also a bit of a reach on their first pick, they might have been able to get him at 19, but they really wanted him.

He was nowhere near that during his April starts against Northwestern and Indiana. And he'd have been drafted well before 21 if he had that FB with his change and curve.

I know he sat at 87-89 last year and was a slight tick above that when I saw those April starts. Maybe he amped it up for a start after his injury.

I guess we'll know soon enough. He'll probably be Brad Radke part deux.
