I doubt Beckham has taken a ground ball at 2B in months....and since he didn't play 2B in college or really much in the minor leagues, that may be an issue.

While it's true that 2b may end up being his position eventually, he will not be there this year barring an emergency.

Fields would serve absolutely no purpose on this team. Lillibridge is needed to play backup 2B/SS. He instantly becomes one of the best defenders on a really bad defensive team.

It's obvious the Sox are treating Beckham as their 3B. He has barely played any 2B in his career. You're suggesting the Sox move Beckham to an unfamiliar position while putting Fields back in the infield? Are you just curious to see how much worse the defense can get?
