I'm anxiously waiting for the trade deadline to come and go and without the Sox doing anything. I don't want KW trading Hudson.

His ceiling is higher this year due to his velocity increase and his improved change. I've read a few people say he could be a #3 starter.

Ceiling of a #2 or #3 starter. Hudson was a 5th round selection out of Old Dominion last summer.

The "so-and-so has a ceiling of a number 3 starter" stuff is pretty inexact. No one was predicting Webb or Haren as number ones when they were in the minors, for instance. And guys like Halladay and Curt Schilling were huge disappointments before they weren't. I'd say we should hold on to Hudson because he is a four-pitch guy with solid control in a system where only he, Torres, Ely, and Carter are anywhere close to be able to start in the majors from the right side. I can't imagine the 2010 team is going to get a lot of innings out of Contreras, Colon, and/or Garcia.

I agree. Players develop at different rates and you hold on to the guys who are really showing great progress and potential.

If everyone stayed with the same relative ability to all the other players, the guys who dominated in Little League would be dominating in the majors.

Hudson is the best prospect in the Sox system as far as I'm concerned. His potential as a starter exceeds Poreda because he has more pitches to and has greater potential to go longer into a game. Poreda needs to develop another good pitch.

At this stage, I really think Hudson will be in the Sox rotation next year.

Agree on both counts.
Goldstein, the BP minor league guy, said that Hudson may be the breakout pitcher of the year in all of the minors, and is a consensus major leaguer among the scouts.

In that case, I'll clarify. He projects somewhere between Cy Young and Arnie Munoz.
