I know the MLB draft isnt quite like the NFL or NBA drafts, but does anybody have an opinion on who we should take with our 1st pick?
I'd like to see either: Tanner Scheppers- http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/draft/...tent=scheppers or Rex Brothers- http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/draft/...ntent=brothers |

Scheppers may very well be off the board by the time we pick. I do think, though, that it's time to take a chance on a high ceiling pitcher, not the Broadway or McCulloch mold.

Scheppers is great, but I would be extremely surprised if he fell to us. He's likely a top 10 pick.
I also like Rex Brothers but I have a feeling he is going to be nabbed just before he gets to us. I'm also a fan of Eric Arnett, Andy Oliver, James Paxton, Kyle Heckathorn, and Mike Minor. Some of these are Boras clients unfortunately. The non pitchers I like are Tony Sanchez and Jared Mitchell. It should be an interesting draft for sure. The talent level after the first 10 picks are rather similar and it's hard to pinpoint who will be late first rounders to supplemental picks. Last edited by DirtySox; 05-16-2009 at 10:18 PM. |

Yeah I guess I looked at a bad mock for Scheppers because he will most likely be gone long before we pick.
And as far as a high school pick. I would wait for that and go high school with our 2nd and 3rd picks since they are both pretty high too. From what I read the college pitching that is going to be available in the 1st round is going to be very good. And that is just something I dont think we can pass up. Im guessing someone is going to fall that shouldnt and hopefully we take that player regardless of Boras client or not. |

Baseball America's first mock draft has us with Eric Arnett, possibly Brett Jackson, or Jared Mitchell.

What about Tim Wheeler from Sacramento State?
He looks pretty good... http://www.hornetsports.com/livestat...9/teamcume.htm There are his current stats... left handed hitter, I like that he has almost twice as many walks as K's... Just a thought! |

I certainly wouldn't be surprised if the Sox draft Tim Wheeler. His name has come up alot with us in mock drafts I've seen. He might sneak into the first round, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was a supplemental pick either.

6-foot-5, 225 pounds, his FB sits at 92-94 mph, touching 96 and maintains velocity into the late innings. Mid-80s slider is a strikeout pitch. A workhorse who has averaged nearly eight innings per start, and he ranked second in NCAA Division I with 11 wins. Scouts say he will need to improve his changeup to remain a starter in pro ball. |
