One freaking game, and everybody keeps bringing them up like the Sox wore them regularly. I really get tired of it.

Tell me about it. Boob Costas also once cracked "personally I found the sight of Wilbur Wood in shorts to be very inspiring." HA HA! One problem. The Sox wore shorts for one game in the summer of 1976. Wood had hurt his knee on May 9 of that year and was gone for the season. Never let facts stand in the way of an unfunny, ego-feeding crack.

I thought the 30 Days, White Sox version was pretty good too, despite the inevitable dumb comment about the shorts. Nice to see someone on the airwaves have the baseball knowledge and sense to comment on (for example) AJ's qualities as a ballplayer, rather than the usual pandering to the know-nothing haters and schoolgirl squealing about how he is just so, totally, like, evil.
I have my fingers crossed that MLB network can become my go-to for a quick update on the day's events around baseball, freeing me from my occasional need to put up with the jags at ESPN. |

I thought the Sox wore them for three games, one against Baltimore and a double header against Kansas City.

No they wore then in the first game of a double header then refused to wear them for the second game. They were never seen again.

I thought I remembered a Uni Watch column specifically about this, but I can't find it now. Somebody might want to search their archives more than I did, or e-mail Paul Lukas and see what evidence he has about his "three games" claim.

Well, the shorts were pretty freaking freaky.

Yes, but it's lazy journalism to just keep going to that well all the time. I'm not a Veeck fan, and the shorts are just one of many reasons why.

Their 30 Clubs in 30 Days for the Sox is supposed to be on again in a little over 20 minutes, but it's only the seventh inning in the ST game they're broadcasting. I wonder if this'll be in jeopardy because I haven't seen it and I don't think it'll be on again.

This and that...have both Bob Vanderberg and Rich Lindberg checking on the number of games the Sox wore shorts in.

I just noticed today that MLB Network HD is available on my Comcast cable down here in Peoria. I have no idea if that's the case up in Chicago, but I'm assuming if we have it down here in podunk, you guys have it, too.
