El caballo was, yes. I think the switch to OF was a good move for him.

It's not that hard to look decent pitching mop-up duty in September. At this point does he project as much more than he is right now? A 14th or 15th pitcher on a good ballclub?

Brandon Allen might end up being a nice surprise.

Daver, in your opinion, do you think that Joe Borchard would have developed into a quality MLB player if he had been drafted and developed by, say, the Twins?

But though FRATER laughed openly, he wept secretly; and really he neither laughed nor wept. Nor did he mean what he said. |

Borchard just sucked. Maybe if he was in the A's system, he might have faired better.

The A's have a track record of helping guys enhance their power.
Joe Borchard, however, just sucked.

Joe Borchard didn't need help with power, he needed help with plate discipline, pitch recognition, and timing, thus my point that his post was laughable. The A's are no better than the Sox in player development.

Didn't Joe get almost 1,000 at bats in the minors before he was called up? Considering he hit pretty well in AA and AAA beforehand, I don't think you can say he was rushed.

Sounds more like someone that didn't want to play baseball.

He did hit that monster shot against Philadelphia, though, so he'll always have the footnote of having hit the longest homer in The Cell. Ultimately, turning him into Matt Thornton was probably one of KW's best trades ever. |

I look forward to seeing how CJ Retherford and Jack Egbert do next year. Before this year (that started off with an injury), Egbert and his sinkerball have done very well the past few years. And Retherford (23) has posted solid numbers considering he went from GRF in '07, skipped Kanny, straight to W/S in '08.
