He probably would have been assigned to Winston-Salem if he would have signed sooner. I think they sent him to Kannapolis just because there's only 15-18 games left, and he hasn't played in about 6 weeks.

Birmingham to start next year, for sure.

Birmingham will be in the playoffs. It would be cool if they dumped Robert Valido and added Beckham to the playoff roster.

I remember years ago Jon Garland made his first AAA start in the playoffs, so it would not be unprecedented.

There's no reason not to promote him to Winston-Salem. Greg Paiml has a .655 OPS. And it won't be long before he's at Birmingham, where Robert Valido (what a disappointment!) is at .567.

Granted the sample size is small, but damn Beckham is looking great (and looked great in the CWS, not to mention the Cape Cod League last year).

I guess the only argument against promoting him is that the season is almost over, but Beckham projects to move quickly through the system anyways so it would be nice to see him move up.
