Thanks for posting this. From little tidbits I've picked up scouring the internet, it looks like 31st rounder James McCann is headed to Univ. of Arkansas with hopes of improving his draft status. Of course, nothing is certain until it actually happens.
Randall Thorpe, Round 29, is an interesting prospect. True CF guy with outstanding speed and defensive ability. His bat is questionable which caused him to drop. Several teams were interested in him before the draft including the Pirates, Rangers, and White Sox. His agent supposedly wants top 5 round money to get him signed. I think he'd go to Texas A+M if he doesn't sign. I have not been able to dig up any more information on Jonathan Weaver, Round 17, or Kyle Long who is commited to Florida State. Supposedly the White Sox people were meeting with the Long family soon but personally I expect him to go to college. Mark Gonzales at the Trib expects Beckham and Danks to sign in August. |

I read something (I think on mlb.com) that said Long would have to be blown away by an offer to get him to renig on his commitment to FSU. I am still holding on to the irrational hope that the Sox offer him a mind-blowing deal and we pry him away from the Seminoles, but I doubt he signs.

The thing is, if he spends 1-2yrs at college and he projects to go higher, why not offer him money and have your people teach him? I use Mark Texiria(sp?) as an example, if the RedSawks would of given him that money, imagine what they would of had. |

I said this exact same thing... if he projects to be a 1st or 2nd round pick in 2 years, why not give him that money now, put him in your system and in 2 years you've just added a 1st or 2nd round pick essentially to your draft class... what is wrong with this? This will also help in free agency... if we were to sign a Type A player in 2 years we would lose our 1st round pick... and guys like this that you sign will help to make up for what you lose during free agency!

35th round pick Harold Riggins is going to NC State.
http://www.pantagraph.com/articles/2...f611979179.txt EDIT: Another find, 43rd round pick Cory Farris is going to Kentucky. http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs...90387/-1/CINCI EDIT #2: According to the Huntsville Times, Taylor Thompson is returning for his junior season. No link was available. EDIT #2A: Also, I found some information on Jorden Merry on the Washington Huskies' website: http://gohuskies.cstv.com/sports/m-b...060208aab.html It's the list of returning Huskies and where they are playing summer ball. Merry is listed as playing with the Havasu Heat, and has been pretty dominant (2 ER in 19.0 IP, 29 K's). His most recent start was on the 11th, so one could only assume that he intends to stay for his senior season. Last edited by chaotic8512; 07-19-2008 at 04:43 AM. Reason: Thompson, Merry |

Eddie Young, our 33rd round pick, has committed to UC Riverside.
http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports...99-n66432.html Pretty likely Steve Domecus will be going to Virginia Tech unless we offer him above slot. He's playing summer ball in Alaska now. http://www.marinij.com/sports/ci_9508296 Last edited by chaotic8512; 07-22-2008 at 05:15 PM. |

There's no chance that Beckham and Danks won't sign right? It's just negotiating numbers now, but they'll eventually sign, we wouldn't let them slip away would we?

Getting closer to the deadline - should see some more answers to some of these guys. I have no doubts on Beckham. I'm confident on Danks. The rest are doubtful in terms of the top few unsigned guys (Leesman, Merry and Weaver) assuming we do go well over slot for Danks.
Either way - looking forward to evaluating this draft in a few years. I am optimisitc. |
