great debut for Silverio. He is only 17 and he is a prospect that you do not rush and take it one step at a time

Yeah, I almost forgot the so-called scout on another site (which has apparently banned him) said he was 20. A big for that one.

Yeah, that guy believes that Gerst is the Sox top position prospect.

On the other hand, with the scandal involving Wilder, any info about any of the guys from the Dominican you kind of have to take with a grain of salt now, don't you?

On another note, it's going to be interesting to see if they give Cheatham a chance. He's like a 46th round draft pick, but he held his own at Bristol last year. Once KW Jr. shows up, I have a feeling this kid will be on the bench.

Nice to see Richar start to take some walks. If his batting eye is returning, he should start hitting the ball harder soon. Anyone know anything about how he is doing physically? Is the rib still bothering him at all, or is he 100%?

I see Richar's getting it together. He's on the same 15-20 HR pace that he showed on the big club last year. His OBP is too low, but rising. And he has 5 steals in 6 attempts, much better than owens' woeful 17 steals in 27 attempts.

I remember him having a great eye last year. He'd always go down in the count 0-2, and battle back to 3-2 just about every at bat. I think it'll come to him. If we can get a .270/.330 line from him with good D and 18 hrs and 12-16 sb's, I'd be ecstatic. Hopefully he keeps progressing.

I think his ceiling is higher than that. All last year both AAA and after call up, he was averaging 70 XBH for a full season. His OPS at AAA was .960 and yes I know it's a hitter's park, but thankfully so is USCF...

I don't think he's the top prospect at all. I think he has potential to become a solid player and it was a great start to his career

Absolutely his ceiling is higher than that. I guess this is just my prediction for the 2009 season if he's healthy and has the 2b job all year. I think he can continue to grow and learn and eventually put up better numbers than that. I should have said if we can get those numbers from him in his first full year in the bigs which will probably be in '09, I'd be ecstatic.

I think what he said was, he's at the same age and level of development that Jacoby Ellsbury was while he was in college.

Gerst could develop into that, but who knows.

so what do yall think - he sits in AAA until September call ups?
I guess I don't want him sitting on the bench in Chicago. But, gosh he's a better hitter than URibe or Osuna
