Not that it plays a huge role into whether they'll take him or not, but I love that he's a lefty, especially with all the right-handed bats we currently have. Whether all those righties will still be around by the time Alonso makes it up, no idea, but still. A power-hitting lefty would be a great thing to have homegrown from our system.

I've actually heard the Posey doesn't has a fairly low ceiling, especially for a possible number 1 pick...that he projects as a 6 or 7 hitter in the majors.

1 down, 6 to go. It seems to be unanimous that Alvarez goes at 2 to PIT. So KC at 3 = Hosmer? Matusz? Smoak?

Pirates-Pedro Alvarez, 3B
Royals- Eric Hosmer, 1B
Orioles- Brian Mutusz, P
Giants- Buster Posey, C
Marlins- Aaron Crow, P
Reds- Gordon Beckham, SS
White Sox- Justin Smoak, 1B

Nobody knows, so it's fun to guess. At least everything I've seen and read says the Marlins want a catcher, whether its Posey or Skipworth. I have a feeling Crow might fall out of the top 8. The rest of that look about right. I think the only team that might sneak up and take Smoak would be the Giants if they don't like Posey's pricetag. So Smoak would go to SF and Posey to FL, leaving us probably with Alonso.

I'll be interested to see who we choose if Smoak and GBeckham are both available, since earlier there was a lot of connection between the Reds and Crow.

I can see that happening, and as train said, the Giants may go with Smoak. But of course, it could be completely different

And he would drop right past us too...Not only is that stupid money for a prospect, it's irresponsible. No way JR ponys up even close to that kind of dough to land him if he falls.

I hope Smoak falls to us....

And if he did, then the Sox can do another cross promotion with the Chicago Fire. When there's Smoak there's Fire!!

I think that looks about right, with maybe Beckham and Smoak swapping places. I would take Beckham over Smoak and Smoak over Alonso, but either of the three are solid picks.
