Default Jared Mitchell Released

Dan Hayes @CSNHayes
#WhiteSox have released Jared Mitchell at Triple-A Charlotte. Tyler Colvin is promoted to take Mitchell's place.

Draft Baseball players, not athletes.

No surprise that Jared was released. Wasted draft pick.

Everyone's being too harsh on him. If he didn't suffer a serious injury in spring training, who knows what he could have become?

Yup.

Bad philosophy on the Sox part.

Ehhh...we couldn't have found room for Mike Trout anyway.

Ok, clearly the Sox let Trout get off the hook, but so did everyone else basically in 21 of the 24 picks before. As I quickly perused the 2009 draft, there are only 3 names that I recognize in the list before Trout's selection that sound familiar: Stephen Strasburg, Mike Leake & Zack Wheeler

I wouldn't do too much hand wringing over how we missed out on Trout.

If we had drafted him, he would have been rush to The Show where today his career batting average would be .210 averaging 13 home runs a season.

This guy must really suck if he can't make this team's AAA affiliate. Jeez, great draft pick there.

That means he hits, runs, throws and catches worse than everybody on the ML roster AND the minor league rosters.

He better find a job outside of baseball quick.

Yet another in a long line of Sox draft pick busts. To be fair, draft picks don't make it to the majors more often than not, but the Sox had about a decade there there nearly every pick was a bust. There's a big difference between having the usual misses in the draft and missing on almost everything for about a decade.

I remember getting flamed by the usual know-it-all suspects on this site for merely ASKING (I wasn't proclaiming it as a sure thing) if Mitchell's struggles in the minors meant he was another Sox draft pick bust. I guess history has proven that getting ripped for such a stupid question was well deserved.

I have wondered about that too. If it weren't for that ankle injury, would things have been different? We'll never know. The ankle injury did cost him a year of development, but I'm not sure how that turned him into a .100 hitter in the minors.

Last I checked, he was hitting less than .100 at Charlotte.

On the bright side Keenyn Walker is hitting .254 with a .375 OBP at Winston-Salem.
