I realize that the White Sox are not going to add any payroll the next 2 seasons but still would it had been so bad to spend $6 million dollars on Moustakas? The White Sox need a 3rd baseman and a left handed hitter. Moustakas fits both of those needs. I would have rather seen Moustaakas signed for $6 million dollars then spend/waste $8million dollars on a bum like Joakim Soria.

Count me among those who would have been fine with a 1-year deal at $6.5 million though I wonder if the Royals got some sort of discount.

Boras might pound the collusion conspiracy even more now.

Edit: Wait- if the signing would come with the forfeiture of a pick, count me out. That's one of the dumbest rules in baseball today.

Yep, it would have cost the Sox their 2nd round pick this year.

So, Moustakas signs a 1 year deal with a mutual option for a 2nd year. I suppose that means that if he has another good year in 2018, he'll be back in the free agent market next winter.

I guess the players will agree to just about anything to keep a hard salary cap out of the CBA. The MLBPA must consider the small subset of players who get screwed by service time manipulation and qualifying offer draft picks as a cost of doing business.

And now they're seeing the ramifications of their concession with their agents screaming collusion (with zero proof). Right now, the owners are essentially the house and the players are the gamblers. This is exactly what happens when the older players tell the younger ones they have to earn lower salaries through their prime years to "earn" big money during their declining seasons.

The MLBPA is becoming a joke.

Moustakas has signed with the Royals.
