The Nats have a great rotation but that bullpen is AWFUL. They're going to need Scherzer and Strasburg to go at least six (maybe even seven) innings each time out.

I don't know who to root for now.

Definitely not the Yankees. I think I've soured a bit on the Astros, especially given the latest sign stealing story. The Cardinals are the Cardinals. The Nationals have Eaton. It might have to be the Cardinals out of schadenfreude considering the eventual reaction of Cub fans. Though I'm kinda leaning toward the Nats since I do dislike Eaton but probably not as much as I dislike St. Louis.

Good for the Astros.

Iím rooting for the Nats to beat Houston in the WS.

Anibal Sanchez throws 7.2 innings of no-hit ball against the Cardinals. He was expected to only pitch about 5 innings.

Lots of Cardinals fly balls dying on a frigid night.

The Cardinals have probably the most insufferable fanbase of them all. Everyone should root against them no matter who they're playing.

Nationals are my top choice, then Astros, then the Yankees.

Looked like those "insufferable" fans were giving Sanchez an ovation when he got pulled in the 8th.

The list of insufferable fan bases HAS to feature Red Sox and Cubs at 1-2, in any order, in any given year.

I'm with some of the others on this site who root for the Cardinals simply for the way their success tortures Cubs fans. Meanwhile, our biggest rivals (in my mind, anyway) have lost 16 consecutive postseason games!

I used to be like this, until I actually met Cardinals fans.

Seconded. The all powerful and important long ball failed them and they couldnít adjust to actually hitting the damn ball.

They're not half bad, once they find out you're from Chicago and hate the Cubs. Common enemy and all that.

This comment segue’s nicely into this fangraphs blog. Some are beginning to speculate the baseball has been tampered with once again:

I've been spending a week a month down in Carbondale for work and have found that all the Cardinal fans down here are extremely friendly, much more friendly than the Chicago metro area. When they found out the "Chicago boy" didn't cheer for the blue team, they were even nicer.

The same thing happened to me while on a job near St. Louis. When they found out I was from near Chicago, they asked me if I was a Cubs fan.

"I'd root for the Cardinals first!" was my response. High fives all around, I had no problems down there.
