The Angels had a losing record with Trout. Cahill was their opening-day starter, which doesn't speak well for a 2019 starting rotation.

Still, Trout makes a huge difference in the Angels lineup, and he was the difference when the Brewers went to Anaheim for their three games with the Angels.

I wonder if anyone with tickets to the weekend series is disappointed or even upset that they won't get to see Trout play in their shrine.

Ah, a little controversy to end the game...

If I’m seeing that picture correctly, the punk definitely swung. **** him, the Cubs, and their ****ing fans.

With the picture, it's all about the angle. Umpires used to draw the line between a checked swing and a full swing by whether the hitter turned over, broke his wrists. Now it's generally judged by whether the bat crosses half the plate. As far as I know, it's entirely a matter of the umpire's judgement. As small as the strike zone is these days, I don't have a problem with pitchers getting the benefit of the doubt on checked swings.

Of course, the Cubs deserved to lose, with two relievers coming into the game with the bases loaded and issuing walks. But if you look at the ninth inning, it's amazing the Cubs lost this in nine. The Cubs had runners on second-and third with one down by two runs. A sacrifice fly should have been the second out, but an Angels misplay put the tying run at third and the winning run at second with one out. Like, how can you not at least tie a one-run game with runners on second and third and one out. Anything the defense does to choke off the run at the plate increases the chance of the winning run scoring on a ball put into play. Of course, Friday's hero Contreras struck out on three pitches and Schwarber struck out believing he had coaxed a walk. Even if he walks, the Cubs are still down a run with the winning run on second and two outs.

Schwarber also struck out during the eighth-inning rally that didn't tie the game. He got off to a pretty good start this season, but his average had dropped below .200 before he struck out to end the game. Don't feel sorry for the Cubs. This Cubs loss, not unlike a few of their losses this year, was more comedy than tragedy.

So, how did Trout hurt his groin?

Did he pick up his paycheck too quickly without stretching first?

Typical Cubs. For years, they blamed a goat. In 1969, they blamed a black cat. In 2003, they blamed Steve Bartman. Now, they blame an umpire. As one presidential candidate said years ago, "Blame yourself!"

Not sure what they can do, but MLB is investigating racist social media messages Cub fans sent to Carl Edwards Jr. after his start to the season.

Morrow threw a side session, had soreness after, and is still out indefinitely.

If anyone besides Theo had spent on $185 million during an offseason for Darvish, Chatwood, and Morrow that person would be getting roasted in the local media.

Don't look now, but the Cubs' pitching appears to have turned a corner. Per Kamka, they had an MLB-worst 7.51 ERA through nine games. In the 11 games since then, their 1.73 ERA is the best in MLB.

In the long run I think they'll show to be a pretty average staff.

The Marlins, Pirates, and Angels without Trout would make a lot of staffs look good.

Other than one series with the Brewers, they have not played any quality teams yet.
