This is dumb. If a stud free agent wants to sign with the Sox, they have to sign him. And if the prospects look MLB ready then trade them for some pitching

The prospects will outperform the stud free agent over the long term.

Some are starting to wonder if Dylan Cease is hurt again. Wouldn't be surprised with the way he's pitched the last couple of times out. https://therunnersports.com/somethin...h-dylan-cease/

I'm actually wondering if he's working on one of his pitches to get more control. Maybe he's trying to perfect his slider or changeup or 2-seamer or whatever to add another pitch to his repertoire and he's throwing a lot of them so he becomes proficient but as a result the results aren't there.

The article does not break down his pitches in these outings and this is as valid an explanation as there suggestion he's injured is. Kind of like Giolito in ST when everyone was freaking out and it turned out he wasn't using all his pitches but working on something specific.

It also would explain why the Sox didn't call him up but gave him something to work on instead. "Do this and get it right and then you'll pitch in the bigs later this summer". The team has already hinted that he will be called up later this year when they called up Collins.

This is what I was thinking too. I think we forget sometimes that in the minor leagues, performance is secondary. Most important thing is development. We only get to see the box scores, but the coaches and front office know a lot more about what they want to see out of a player than we do. Look no further than Madrigal's underwhelming stint at A+ for evidence of this.

For those that haven't checked the link:

5. Robert
16. Kopech
18. Cease
40. Madrigal

And that's it. Very top-heavy. I can't tell if the top-30 was updated as well, but right now the next prospects on the list are Dunning followed by 5 OFs (Basabe/Adolfo/Rutherford/Gonzalez/Walker). Then come Collins/Burger, then a handful of RPs.

Burger is wait and see and Collins is about to graduate off anyway. I think Walker might be getting ready to bust out. He might get promoted when Robert goes to AAA - which should be fairly soon I'd think.

Walker has been hot the past week or two but he's only been in A+ for a month and struggled pretty badly right after the promotion. I don't think they need to push him that fast. Btw, per Fegan (he co-hosts a new Sox podcast on the Athetic for those who are subscribers) Walker is quite the character. Someone compared him to a "Christian Nick Swisher", but in a more likable way (teammates seem to love him).

Good point about Walker. He might finish the year at A+ then hopefully bust through two levels next year.

Andrew Vaughn will immediate be placed as a top 50'ish prospect as soon as he signs.
