The amount of young OF prospects the Sox have is ridiculous. They have 10 guys that are 23 or younger and have potential to be MLB players at some point (with different ceilings).

The elite guys:
Jimenez (20 - A+)
Robert (19 - DSL)
Rutherford (20 - A)

The other guys:
Adolfo (20 - A)
Basabe (20 - A+)
Booker (23 - A+)
Call (22 - A)
Fisher (23 - A+)
Gonzalez (21 - A)
Polo (22 - probably AA)

You could even throw in Hawkins, who I don't think is much of a prospect anymore, but is still only 23 (younger than Fisher). I thought he was at least 25 by now. He's having a good month after taking care of his thyroid problem, so you never know.

The odds say that most of these guys will never reach the majors, but when you have 10+, hopefully at least a couple make it.

I don't see any of those guys starting 2018 above AA, which means the lower levels will be pretty crowded. Where would you assign these guys for the beginning of 2018?

For the start of 2018- maybe something like this?

The elite guys:
Jimenez (20 - A+)- AA
Robert (19 - DSL)- AZL/Great Falls
Rutherford (20 - A)- A+

The other guys:
Adolfo (20 - A)- A+
Basabe (20 - A+)- A+ (not ready for promotion)
Booker (23 - A+)- AA (at 24, make or break)
Call (22 - A)=A+
Fisher (23 - A+)- AA (at 24, make or break)
Gonzalez (21 - A)- A (not off to a good start)
Polo (22 - probably AA)- AA

IF Hawkins shows anything the rest of the way (hitting .273 over his past 10 games), maybe push him up to AAA (logjam at AA and A+) since there really aren't any OF prospects projected for Charlotte (I expect W. Garcia to be on the Sox, other than that, only J. May and maybe Liriano).

At some point, there may be more viewers/posters to the Minor Observations forum than the main board. I know that I'm checking box scores for the farm teams on a nightly basis. It's really fun to follow not only the kids acquired via the recent trades, but I still hold out hope for guys like Call and Fisher. This time next year, they'll add another 1-2 highly regarded players via the draft (I assume they'll have a top 3-4 pick).

In summary, if you can be patient, this is a fascinating time to be a Sox fan.

I am willing to bet Burger will project as a top 50 prospect by sometime next year. I also think Jimenez will be rated one next year. Jimenez is insanely talented. How we got him for Quintana is master class from Hahn.

If Burger continues his hitting, any chance he's moved up to A+ before season end? He seems like a potential candidate for A+ or maybe even AA next year.

I expect Robert will skip right over rookie ball and play in A or A+ next year. Cuban baseball is generally considered to be the equivalent of A+ baseball and he was excelling there. I think his stop in DSL was just because he hadn't played in over a year and they wanted to get him acclimated. I would expect they want him playing a full year of baseball next year.

I would expect he would be. If he keeps up anything close to 5 for 5 with 2 doubles and a triple and hitting over .400 it shows he is outclassing the league and there is no benefit at all to keeping him there. Challenge him by moving him up.

He's fitting the bill scouts had for him nicely, so far. Most said that he was a "quick to the majors" type. If this is what can be expected, then we should see him up here sooner rather than later.

My only question is whether or not his glove will do the job at third?

Right. The description of his body and his defense is questionable. That would be a problem if he is a DH only at the major league level as by that time I would hope Sheets is playing first and Jose has moved to DH for the last years of his career.

We don't necessarily need him to be Crede with the glove over there. His movement looks clunky, but he seems to control it decently from what I have seen. Obviously, the game moves quickly in the bigs so he may have trouble.

Still, that bat is incredible from what I have seen and read about him. I wouldn't necessarily mind taking a gamble on his glove for the bat. Miguel Cabrera wasn't exactly God with the glove.

Fun to see what's happening at WS and Kannapolis- Burger could move up to the Dash quickly , Skoug could start to push Collins [, Micker only 8 months older than Rutherford- similar pyroduction, wonder if he starts to move up Sox prospects ranking soon? How soon does Jiminez move to Birmingham?

Seems like maybe Kopech is really breaking through- prob his best start last night, while Giolito really got lit up.
Zavala is the one who may be pushing Collins right now. It would be great, though, to have three good catching options given the recent Sox history with that position.
