Faedo is my guy. Haseley would be a good consolation. After that, I say we take a shot at a prep in a frustrating college class.

Edit:oh yeah, count me in as someone who wouldn't mind Seth Romero - he doesn't seem "crazy" just young, dumb and well...

I would like to see them grab Nick Pratto if Haseley or Smith are off the board. Also would be intrigued by Evan White, who apparently can play RF/LF.

I know I said it before, but really don't want any more "toolsy" outfielders. That philosophy failed in the 00's and we already have a few in our system with Luis Robert and Basabe.

Evan White is here in Lexington and I follow the UK baseball team. This team can really hit and he's their best clutch hitter and owns the fourth-highest average in the SEC. He's also regarded as one of the best defensive 1B in all of college ball. His power is not quite there yet for 1B (8 HRs in 214 PA), but he has a big frame (6'3, 205), so he could still develop more power. He only strikes out about 14% of the time.

Riley Mahan, the 2B, is a really good hitter and has more power than White, but he's terrible in the field.

Yeah, the thought of drafting Jeren Kendall just sends shivers down my spine. Kid has a lot of talent, but it just seems like a really bad match.

I read yet another article today where Hostetler spoke about the importance of putting the bat on the ball/not striking out. He did, however, say that there is a time and place for the guy who might strike out if the other tools are loud enough to compensate. But I got the feeling that he doesn't really want to go down the Kendall route. We'll see.

Kendell would make more sense for somebody else that already has several young core pieces. His best role might be to hit 7th or 8th and play good defense. I do like his defense a lot though. I think Haseley makes the most sense, but we are also in a position to gamble on a guy like Shane Baz or D.L Hall if they drop that far.

As of today, looks like we would be in the mix for the fifth overall pick.
Doesn't look like a top 3 finish is out of the question...

I think it depends on when we start jettisoning vets in trades. If it's late July and Q, Robertson, and Frazier are on the roster, we probably won't be a top-3 pick.

Austin Beck, if available, is my no-brainer choice.

It will be interesting to see if Hostetler is willing to grab a High Schooler in the first round. The Sox do not have a long (or storied) history of doing that.

Since 2000 the White Sox have taken a grand total of 2 high school players with first round picks.

2001: Kris Honel
2012: Courtney Hawkins

Note that I am not counting supplemental first rounders. if that were the case you'd need to add on:

2004: Gio Gonzalez (#38)
2012: Keon Barnum (#48)

But that is it...

Yeah, but as you yourself have also mentioned, our draft aporoach has changed - for the better - the last couple of years. Beck is the only kid in this draft - in my opinion - who has superstar potential. I hope Hostettler agrees w/me. 🙏
