Sox have the room to take on the salary that Dodgers and KC want to dump and that's why we get two good relievers for a minor leaguer. This looks like a good deal for the Sox especially if these two guys perform well and we can flip them for better prospects than Peter.

I wish that Hahn would not have traded Dave Robertson to the Yankees. I would rather have him in the White Sox bullpen than Soria.

But for the pieces he helped us acquire.

And get ready to see Soria flipped at the deadline this year, which will net us more prospects. All for the low, low price of Jake Peter, a guy who is the #30 prospect in the Dodger org now.

Honestly, looking at their line of work, I'm more confident in Luis Avilan being flipped for anything of value. While Soria certainly isn't "done", he isn't nearly the same Soria that we all hated when he was with KC.

Two more potential trade pieces come July. Nice work Rick!

Maybe he can trade Soria and Rutherford to the Yankees for Robertson.

Agreed with the others on this thread. Good trade and low risk to the Sox. Even if Soria and Avilan both turn out to be busts, all we gave up was one B-level prospect and, while not free, their contracts will hardly be an albatross for the Sox and should have no impact on their participation in the free agent market when this team is ready to be buyers again.

Even with the Sox still in rebuild mode in 2018, they still need some serviceable relievers to back up their young, talented starters. Here's hoping these 2 acquisitions help fill that need.

and, as others said, perhaps they can be traded at the deadline for some more useful prospects if things work out right.

Not saying I agree with this, I don't, but how much worse off would they be if they just hung onto Kahnle and Swarzak? Although we did get something there that's prolly better than Peter. OK, I guess, move along. Might just be a case of churning the bullpen.

Definitely this! If we have some guys we are looking to lock up, front load some money to 2018-2019 when our payrolls will be extremely low. We may have lucked out the Dodgers will do about anything to shed salaries.

Both are on short term contracts; both are to stabilize the pen for 3 months and then to trade.

It's fine, given that the Sox didn't like Peter much.
