Nice job lumping together two All Star seasons and a third, bad year of decline, to come to an “average.” PK was bad in 2013. Period. It didn’t matter because the 2013 Sox were abysmal.

But my point remains that PK’s 2013 provides a cautionary tale that demonstrates the risk inherent to going more than year-to-year for an aging corner bat.

But though FRATER laughed openly, he wept secretly; and really he neither laughed nor wept. Nor did he mean what he said.

That’s the thing. The decline is not always linear. Sometimes it hits all at once in the form of a below-replacement season, which is a disaster at $14 million, 16 million, or any other million.

Think PK in 2013 bad. Think Kung Fu Panda with Boston bad. Think Chris Davis with Baltimore bad.

People against this signing are against it for 3 reasons:

1) It is well over market value, in both years and dollars, for a bat-only 1B who provides negative value in the field and on the basepaths. He is not among the elite at his position, and he is already 32 years old. He never would have received 3 guaranteed years and a nearly $17 million AAV from another team.

2) The team completely ditched the huge advantage it had by administering a QO. They turned a great 1/$17.8 signing into a bad 3/$50 signing for no good reason.

3) This move telegraphs that Jerry Reinsdorf is meddling in baseball decisions just as much as ever, which scares the **** out of me.
LOL!

I love how you cut out the part of my post where I said that I thought it was an overpay. And you're accusing other people of putting words in your mouth? Ha! Take a look in the mirror. Apparently anyone who doesn't fall in line with your narrative about this team and doesn't take a total dump on every move this team makes is in the "sunshine and lollipops" crowd.

....and people wonder why this place is becoming a ghost town. Who has time to argue with this crap ad nauseum and then get called out as being "sunshines and lollipops" after saying the extension was an overpay.

Have fun arguing with the tumbleweeds here. I'm done with this site for a while - joining other posters on sabbatical. I can't stand this crap anymore - being called out for daring to argue with the hyperbolicly negative crowd.

The hyperbolicly positive, smugly self-righteous “Hurr durr, welcome to WSI!” posts in response to ANY criticism whatsoever of the benighted front office are every bit as tired and lame to us as the complaining is to you.

Have fun at your Kumbaya drum circle with the tumbleweeds.
