I didn't. Acknowledged it in another post. Only pointing out that a number of posters have defended Robin solely because he played the game for many years. By that logic, a ton of players with years of service are "qualified."

The key word in his post was "directly." His point was that he hadn't been out of baseball for most of a decade before he was hired, like the current Sox manager was.

In my opinion, it doesn't change my point that I disagree with the position that simply having played the game qualifies someone to manage.

What was Ted Williams record as a manager? Gotta be pretty dismal....

Sorry, Quintana. Sale is a stud and Q so far looks to be a solid 2-3 rotation guy. After that there are tons of question marks. Hopefully the Sox can go from 99 losses to 85 ish this year. |

As I see it, Robin had one good yr and one bad one. Let this yr be the tie breaker. |

I agree, he is a respectable, classy guy that handles the media well. In the two years here, I have not heard any personnel issues with him and the players. With the number of coaches employed these days, a manager doesnt need to be a great teacher or strategist. The key is to have the right staff. I dont think Ventura is hiring the staff so if there is deficiency in those aspects, the blame should fall on the ones who hire the staff. |

This ain't football. If we get the right players on the roster, Robin will be fine.
