Maybe, but good Lord, this is going to be SO painful.

"Painful" is hoping against all logic that a patchwork team with obvious unaddressed flaws can have everything go right all at once, sneak into the playoffs, and catch fire once that time arrives, only to be disappointed yet again when it doesn't happen.

If anything, this year will be far less painful than any one of the previous eight seasons that have ended without a postseason appearance, because we already are resigned to that fate before the season starts. 2018 and 2019 will be the same way, and I'm willing to punt 2020 as well if need be. Just don't take the turkey out of the oven too soon and give us all salmonella.

Lawrie is hurt? I'll stand by the signing of Avi and Lawrie.

Rooting for one hundred loses? Never from me.

I watched most of todays spring training game against the Dodgers. Couple observations:

Was it just me or did it look like Fulmer had tamed his delivery quite a bit? It didn't seem all that out of control me. He threw a couple bad pitches but otherwise put in two good innings.

Zack Collins hit the ball hard in his two at-bats. First one was an out to second but the next was a solid single to right-center. Both times I was impressed by his bat speed. Very quick, solid swing.

On a stolen base attempt on the other hand he did not look good. Bad technique leading to a low, late throw.

Otherwise nothing else really stood out to me. I missed Davidson's at-bat and hit so no comments there. Saw him handle a grounder cleanly and make a nice throw to first.

You're right Fulmer calmed down that delivery of his considerably. Last year nearly every limb looked like it was going to end up in the stands. Much more under control. Good job by him and his coaches.

Yes, it is. A year out of my life. I've never entered a season thinking that the Sox simply didn't care whether they won games or not.

I have zero respect for tanking.

Not necessarily "rooting" for it but if you are going to be bad (which seems to be an accepted fact by the majority of Sox fans) then be HISTORICALLY BAD.

At least get some good out of the stench by being able to select a very, very, very high draft pick.

Just looking at things realistically, removing emotion or fan-dome from the equation.

They're not mutually exclusive.

Mindsets need to change for the next couple of years with White Sox fans. Instead of focusing on wins and losses, we should be focused on these kids and see if they're progressing in a manner which will yield a competitive team a few years out.

I really don't care if they lose 100 games this year, IF some of the young talent starts showing potential and major league development. The front office can't make magic happen - they're rebuilding (and I suspect will continue trading) so it's not reasonable to expect a competitive team this year, and probably next year as well.

As long as prospects are showing effort, and are developing - I'll be very interested, and I'll be watching.......waiting for the payoff in future years.

Fulmer did look much smoother out there yesterday for sure. He was spotting his fastball very well, but his offspeed stuff was very erratic. I appreciate all the hard work he's put in, I hope it pays off.

History shows with the White Sox the first situation is. Just look at the last decade on the field as example #1.

I'm sure some small subset of angry Cubs fans said this five years ago, too.

White Sox announced today that Lawrie has "muscle discomfort" in his "lower body".

Maybe someone can decipher that for those of us who aren't doctors.
