It's an emotional reaction but it's reality right now. I know they can't see Kopech coming, but the weight is really on Moncada now and he's shown few signs of being a guy that thrives under pressure.

Makes you wonder if this is why Kopech and his agent were so vehement about getting him called up. Maybe they knew something was wrong and figured they could spend a year of team control recovering from the surgery rather than waiting until 2020 to start the clock.

If that's the case, the Sox got played badly, and the owners will remember this when the CBA is up.

I really hope not. I have taken the players side in most of these discussions. Then again, if management can use the loophole, shouldn't the players?

I hate ever wishing for losing, and it's difficult to do it even now, but this team desperately needs another top pick in the upcoming draft.

I shouldn't mock you. My first post went full on panic and it is in the roadhouse. I get it.

If thatís the case, putting him back out makes me ****ing furious.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I don't want to parrot the persecution complex that some Sox fans have, but it's hard to sugarcoat this **** sandwich we were served today.

I know it's very likely that he'll come back at full strength after TJS, but 2020 is a long time to wait. As a Sox fan, all I can say is:

IIRC, he's had soreness after every start since the middle of the season.

Probably dates back to then.

He thought it was just general soreness.

Crap happens. Tough to prevent this injury the way these guys throw. Not anything any of the fans can do.

No chance. He was electric his first couple starts, then his velocity dropped 5-6 mph on Wednesday.

No conspiracy here

This sucks. Loses a full year of development and hopefully Kopech doesn't take long in 2020 to regain his strength and control.

Lot of guys have come back better than they were before after TJ so there is some hope he will be fine in the long run.

Question: Was this injury (unbeknownst to us) inevitable as the strain and then tear got worse over time this season? Or is this something likely happened suddenly with one freak pitch?

Something I would like to know too. Is it common for whatever was said above, to have soreness after every start? Should they have taken a look earlier? I hope our staff didn't drop the ball here

I mean...I’ll miss watching him pitch next year, but tommy John surgery almost seems like a right of passage for pitchers these days. Especially the ones with velocity like Kopech. If you’d asked me to bet on it, I would have definitely taken the bet that at some point this would have happened.

So I guess I’d prefer it happen in a year like 2019 when everything has to go right for the Sox to contend, rather than a year like 2022 that could have World Series aspirations

Hard not to think it though......very disappointing.

We do have some solid guys on staff and coming up so in the end, we lose a marketing tool.....IMHO
