Heyman: Trade makes it easier for Tigers to keep Scherzer. I think the trade makes sense for both teams, though the money isn't even.

Miguel Cabrera got worse, so did the Tigers.
Good news for Sox. Especially if plan is for Tigers to use cash saved to hand $100 million over to Scherzer. Think of how much money they will have tied up on 3 pitchers. Arms are due to breakdown. |

Am I the only one thinking if the Tigers can move Fielder we can move Dunn? I know they are two different players but for **** sake the Rangers just took on nearly $200M.

I could see the Tigers wanting to move Cabrera back to first and upgrade defensively at third, although Cabrera actually had a pretty good defensive season there, certainly better than expected. But I really didn't expect them to deal Fielder, especially for Kinsler. |

Milwaukee needs a first baseman. How about Dunn for Aramis Ramirez?

They're going to be able to have an actual defensive 3B going forward. They're losing protection for Cabrera, but they're gaining a ****-ton of defense on the infield. I think this is a major positive for the Tigers.

Not sure why Milwaukee would do that. Aramis is the much better hitter, at a more premium position.

JIM BOWDEN @JimBowdenESPNxm Salary Comparison: Kinsler: $16m in '14 & '15; $14m in '16; $11m in '17; team option '18 for $12m or $5m buyout. Fielder: $24m '14-'20 Jeff Passan @JeffPassan 20m Prince Fielder is 29 years old. If he were a free agent this year, he may demand as much as Robinson Cano. What's next for Tigers: 1.Extend Scherzer 2.Move Cabrera to 1B 3.Move Castellanos back to 3B 4.Sign Closer (Nathan) 5.Pursue LF (Beltran?) What's next for Rangers? 1. Move Profar to 2B 2. Pursue McCann 3. Pursue corner OFer/DH (Cruz,Choo,Beltran) Bob Nightengale @BNightengale The #Tigers were privately upset w Fielder's comments after final game of season and may have played factor in deal http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...nsler/3659179/ Jon Morosi @jonmorosi Tigers fans were down on Fielder at end of season, but they will miss his bat. Large part of motivation is trade could help keep Max. |
