And now it's tied on a ground ball out. I don't like where this is going.

Carpenter homers off Kimbrel in the 10th. 5-4 Cards heading to the bottom of the frame. If it holds, the Cubs will be out of a playoff spot chasing with the Brewers beating up on the Pirates, Reds, and Rockies for the rest of the year.

The Cubs still have to pay Kimbrel $32 million after this season.

Had to be a heartbreaker for all those fans especially after tying it in the 9th. Sleep well guys. I will.

That was a wild game. Can't complain about the outcome

Jack Flaherty is a stud. He is going to cause problems for the other teams in the NL Central for years!

But they still have 6 against the Cardinals who look like they want to all but wrap up the division this weekend. I wouldn’t be surprised if they took 3/4 from the Cubs this series!

I see that Kimbrel didn't earn his big bucks tonight. It doesn't bother me that a team with a bad bullpen can continue to have a bad bullpen by throwing money at a mid-season free agent. There can be some satisfaction in cheering against the money in baseball.

Last weekend, the Brewers and the Cardinals beat each other up while the Pirates were getting beaten up by the Cubs. This weekend, including tonight, the Cubs and Cardinals are going at it while the Brewers were finishing off the Padres before hosting the Pirates. Last weekend the Cubs looked like they were in pretty good shape. This weekend could belong to the Brewers.

It is shaping up to be a four-team race the NL Central and the Wild Card play-in game. The Cubs can't afford to be trailing in the race when they finish their home schedule, but they probably couldn't afford to lose two of three to the Reds at home before dropping the opener of the four-game Cardinals series.

For the first time since April, I think, you could say that if the season ended today, the Cubs' season would end after id didn't end at all well last year.

There is a line out the door and around the block at the Dick's Sporting Goods store near me. No, they are not selling the new iPhone. They put fishing rods on sale last night...….

Schadenfreude. The default September emotion of most Sox fans.

My friend texted last night that he's "done with sports till spring training next year." Obviously, he doesn't have high hopes for the Bears or Hawks, either.
