Vaughn 2/3 2 2B 2 RBI R 2 BB His OPS is starting to climb again.

Kincannon another scoreless inning 0 H 0 BB K

Good offensive night for a lot of top prospects. Sheets's OPS on the season is now .766, which includes his ice cold April as he got adjusted to AA. Rutherford's bat seems to be coming alive again after slumping in July. Fewer strikeouts over the last 10 games, too. Small sample size, but overall it is something he needs to improve upon.

Welcome to pro ball, Andrew. Hopefully he proves to be a valuable arm for us in a few years.

Couple games already over.

Birmingham lost 4-0 and had two total hits by Rutherford and Forbes.

Flores had another solid outing 5.0 IP 5 H 2 ER 0 BB 6 K HR
Dropico 1.0 IP 1 H 0 R 2 K
Hansen went 1.1 1 H 0 R 0 BB 0 K - still good news because he's been struggling with multiple inning appearances so nice to see him come back out and still be scoreless.

Dash won 4-2

Walker 1/4 BB R
Vaughn 1/5 2B (#6) 2 RBI

Frare another scorless 1.1 0 H BB 3 K in his rehab assignment
Sousa 1.0 IP 0 H 0 R 0 BB 2 K

Kannapolis won 10-0 and only gave up 3 hits.

Sosa 2/5 2B R RBI
Osik 2/5 2B R 2 RBI
Zangari 2/4 BB 2 R
Hickman 2/4 2 2B R Simmons 1/3 RBI SF

Davis Martin 5.0 IP 2 H 0 R 3 BB 5 K
Perez 3.0 IP 0 H 0 R 2 BB and HBP (all in his first inning of work to load the bases with no one out) 5 K He's been a very intriguing prospect regularly working 3+ innings in relief and rarely giving up runs - only 5 ER in his last 10 outings covering 30.1 IP He walks too many people but if he can get more control he looks like a real nice pickup on paper.

Charlotte is ongoing. Collins is having a monster night. Schryver got lit up again.

I love Davis Martin as a breakout candidate for next year. When he's good, he's very good. He had a quiet line tonight but still threw 86 pitches through 5 innings...guess he had a lot of deep counts.

Martin, Bilous, Parke...there are some names outside our top 30 that I have started following.

Wilber Perez has been a pleasant surprise, getting more innings at more important moments and handling them easily. Kanny also has Devon Perez in their bullpen, and had Andrew Perez before his promotion, and all three of them have been solid.

You're not kidding about Collins' monster night. 4-5 with 2 HR, and no strikeouts. It doesn't look like he'll get up again unless they rally.

Oh...and Luis Robert is 2-4 with 3 runs scored. #FreePantera

He walked tying the game. Now Mercedes is up. He's 2/4 with a HR also.

Edit: this all happened because they had an error on Robert's grounder that would have ended the game.

So Mercedes strikes out, which means extras, and it means Mercedes will be the runner at second base in the bottom of the 10th. And he's gotta be slower than Konerko, so they'll pull him. But maybe we will get back around to the top of the order...

Minaya held SWB down in the top of the 10th. 5 Ks in 2 innings for Minaya. I have not been a fan of his, but terrific work tonight.

Tilson singles in Orlando (at second in place of Yermin) with two out to walk off Scranton. Minaya picks up the win.

AJ Reed was 0-5 with 5 Ks.

I'm glad he's getting the playing time instead of sitting on the bench 4-5 days/week with the major league club. Once rosters expand in September, maybe they'll finally kick Castillo to the curb. Then they can rotate McCann, Collins, and Mercedes (taking Castillo's spot on the 40-man) between C and DH, and there will always be a catcher available on the bench in case of injury.

The only question I would have is what Mercedes contract status is - maybe they don't want to add him to the roster yet?

Wow, that's pretty telling that Reed is all messed up at the plate when he pulls a platinum sombrero on a day when the opposing pitching obviously didn't have anything going for it.

Yeah. Time to work on that real estate license, AJ.

Anybody know why Reed was on the Temporary Inactive List?
