FiveThirtyEight takes a look at the Cubs' decline since 2016 and how the Brewers and possibly Cardinals are passing them by.

This will be a great race to watch.

If Trevor Bauer didn’t suck, we would be talking about “Year 110 and counting.” What a ****sack he is, and honestly, that entire organization with him.

Bryant being pretty open with his thoughts on service time manipulation. Should be a fun negotiation for the Cubs in a few years.

I'm certainly not a Cub fan but you have to give the organization credit for pouring their OWN money into the park and area. At least Ricketts will walk the crowd and hobnob with fans. You never see our f/o doing that.

Trying to win a WS with #2 and 3 starters out and almost did. Too bad the #4 was Bauer.

Big feature by the way, multiple pages, on Bauer in this week's Sports Illustrated.

It just goes to show you how hard it is to win a WS title. Even after the Cubs executed their rebuild so spectacularly well and had the payroll flexibility to bring in more talent, they're still an injury-riddled Indians team away from having no title to show for the effort.

I'm not suggesting their window for another title is closed, it's not out of the question for them to win it all again this year. But that rotation looks rather shaky now and they're facing payroll restrictions.

Here's another article about what they face heading into 2019:

I recently saw a story (non-Chicago based) that said they could have the best starting rotation in the National League.

On my Facebook feed today there were a ton of complaints from Cub fans about the higher ticket prices. Many of them have sworn off watching the team in person.

The Cubs make zero dollars on concession sales when people watch Cub TV.

But they could very well recoup that in spades depending on how much advertisers are willing to pay to be a part of that network.

Much depends on how the Cubs do this season, if they play well again or go deep in the playoffs that would certainly strengthen their advertising pitch to potential sponsors.
