Sure, but they aren't making $30M a year.

Who else have they given away for peanuts? Derrek Lee for the immortal Hee Seop Choi?

EDIT: looks like they have a new trade that'll crack their top 5:

It's a good thing taxpayers shelled out all that money for a new Marlins ballpark. That investment has really paid off for the fans!

Yeah, surprise, surprise - another top talent ends up with the Yankees.

Time and again, top stars end up in Yankee pinstripes or in Fenway Park. It does smack of some teams being essentially minor league teams to NYY, Boston, and LA. Once the Cubs start their new RSN, you can probably add them to that list too.

People talk about the Rays being a candidate to move to Montreal or Charlotte. I'd put the Marlins way ahead of them. At least the Rays try to win. The Marlins have been nothing more than a glorified farm team for over a decade now. They got their new ballpark and still can't draw fans or act like a farm team to the rich franchises. Time to call MLB in Miami a failure. '97 and '03 were great, but that's long in the past now.
MLB in Florida was a nice idea that made sense at the time, but I'd say it's time to scrap it. Move the Marins and Rays to Portland and Montreal and move on.

Stanton straight up ripped the Marlins organization in today's press conference. Good for him. They somehow got worse after Loria sold.

I apologize if this has been brought up since I just skimmed through this thread but isn't there a way MLB can overrule trades like this one? I seem to remember Selig nixing some deal years ago but I'm not sure if that's just something I dreamed up.

I don't think it was Selig but Bowie Kuhn did. Selig was called in to look into the "Shouldergate" saga between the Sox and Toronto. He allowed the deal to go through.

Canít believe Manfred was dumb enough to lie when he said he had no idea that Jeterís group would gut the Marlins. It was reportedly in the groupís proposal to buy the team.
