Correct. And Schwarber as crappy as he was still was at least positive WAR at 1.5. Davidson was literally one of the worst regulars in the majors.

A more apt comparison of offensive stats: Todd Frazier and Kyle Schwarber

2017 OPS:
Frazier .772
Schwarber .782

Baseball Reference WAR:
Frazier 1.8
Schwarber 1

Schwarber really needs to learn to play a position or move to the AL. Right now Schwarber is Adam Dunn light.

The shirts were probably designed months ago. No matter which team won, it was going to be the same slogan.

If Schwarber had a WAR > 0, then that makes me question the value of WAR. I think he's awful in the field, and he flirted with the Mendoza line for big chunks in the year. He even earned a demotion back to AAA-Des Moines.

Was his WAR against other AAA players?

This is such a dumb question that I should probably be ashamed to ask it, but is there a formula for WAR?

Schwarber can’t hit lefties to save his life. He hit .171 last year which actually raised his career avg against LHP to .159. That makes Maddon’s decision to start him, not once, but twice against Kershaw all the more questionable.

There is a formula or several out there depending on which publication you use for WAR and they're highly subjective from what little i know of them.

Schwarber had an OPS near .900 after his return from Iowa exile.

This is one of those situations where I tell people, “If you’re making an argument that results in me actually *defending* _____, please consider you may be wrong.”

You are thinking of the 31 year old Sox Dunn not the 24 year old Dunn. If Schwarber can be anything close to a young Dunn, he is a keeper.

You mean the Schwarber that actually has been on a team that made the playoffs, won a playoff series, and won a world series? Yeah, his career is already more successful than Dunn's (who hit .201 for his white sox career. Can we stop calling it the Mendoza line yet?)..

I did not look up where Schwarber usually hit in the order, but something tells me he had better protection with guys like Bryant and Rizzo in the lineup.

Is it wrong that I would not want either Davidson or Schwarber on my team? They both suck.

I would take it as a DH platoon in a rebuild. Think last April, but with Kyle Schwarber instead of Cody Asche. If the league makes adjustments and power levels back down to where it rightfully should be, one-dimensional power hitters regain a lot of value.
